    Kythera Biopharmaceuticals Adds CFO, Looks To More Funding


    Calabasas-based Kythera Biopharmaceuticals said Thursday that it has named John W. Smither as CFO of the firm, as part of a move towards another funding round. The company, formerly known as Aestherx, said that Smither will be responsible for all of the firm's financial and administrative aspects. Smither joins from Amgen, where he served as CFO of Amgen Europe, Head of Internal Audit, and Executive Director of Corporate Accounting. Smither has also served at Ernst & Young. Kythera is developing aesthetic medicine products. The firm has previously received funding from Prospect Venture Partners, ARCH Venture Partners, Versant Ventures, Altitude Life Science Ventures, UCLA Venture Fund, and Wilson Sonsini Goodrich and Rosati.
