Language Weaver Receives Follow On Investment

Los Angeles-based Language Weaver announced that it has received a second investment from In-Q-Tel, the CIA's venture capital arm. Language Weaver had announced an initial close to a Series B $4.0M round of funding at the beginning of this month, from Sulphur Creek Ventures, Athenaeum Fund, and Palisades Ventures. The company did not disclose the total amount of investment from In-Q-Tel, only saying that it was a seven figure investment and included a contract with the intelligence agency. Language Weaver is developing statistical machine translation software, which has been applied to such difficult-to-translate languages as Arabic, Chinese, Somali, and Hindi, among others. The company said the contract is to enhance interoperability between Language Weaver's translation software and other natural language processing and analytical tool applications.
