Mahalo Launches, Raises Capital
Santa Monica-based Mahalo, the newest startup from Weblogs founder Jason McCabe Calacanis, launched today at the Wall Street Journal's D: All Things Digital conference in San Diego. The startup said that it is launching an Alpha of a "human-powered search engine", and that it has raised funding from Sequoia Capital, Elon Musk, News Corp, CBS Corporation, and Burda Media. Financial terms of the venture round were not disclosed. The company said it will focus on English-language search using humans to edit search results, including verticals such as travel, products, news, entertainment, sports, food, and health.
