Carslbad-based radio frequency and mixed signal semiconductor developer MaxLinear is targeting the Latin American market with a new, reference design for the broadcast HDTV market. MaxLinear said it has created a new, low-cost USB dongle reference design which incorporates its circuits, making it easy for pay TV satellite, IPTV operators, and over-the-top (OTT) Internet video service providers to add HD broadcast channels to PCs, tablet computers, or netbooks. The company said that free, HDTV channels in Latin America are very popular with subscribers, and lets pay TV operators easily provide access to those channels while keeping their set-top-box costs low.
