Pasadena-based Metacloud, the venture-backed provider of OpenStack-based cloud services has launched its own private cloud service, the company said this morning. According to Metacloud, its new Metacloud Hosted Private Cloud service will provide private cloud services to companies, giving them access to an OpenStack-based cloud platform and expert support. MetaCloud had previously only provided its services via an on-premise offering, helping companies to manage their own OpenStack deployment.
OpenStack is the set of open source components, software, and hardware which allows companies and service providers to deploy their own, interoperably cloud services, and is considered a competitive technology to Amazon's cloud services suite. Pricing on the new Private Cloud offering from Metacloud was not announced. Metacloud is venture backed by Canaan Partners, Storm Ventures, and AME Ventures, and is led by Sean Lynch and Steve Curry; the two had been at Yahoo and Ticketmaster previously.
