mitu Backs Effort To Increase Diversity In Digital Media

Los Angeles-based Mitu, the venture-backed online content developer focused on media and entertainment from a Latino perspective, says it is backing an effort by the Bixel Exchange, part of the Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce's Center for Innovation & Technology, Mayor Garcetti and Annenberg Foundation, to drive diversity in the digital media sector. According to Mitu, its ACCELERATOR program will provide hands-on training and mentorship to multicultural digital creators, teaching those creators every aspect of the digital media industry in a boot camp-style environment. The new effort is also tied into Mayor Garcetti's L.A. Tech Talent Pipeline program, which is looking to place more than 15,000 young people into summer jobs, where the program will provide subsidized internships to each ACCELERATOR participant who graduates from the program. Mitu creates digital content focused on a youth audience, which is American, but sees the world through a Latino heritage or lens. The company says it now has a reach of nearly 100 million people in the U.S. each month.
