MMC Sells Off Mail.com

Los Angeles-based MMC, the online publisher headed by Jay Penske, is getting out of the email business. The firm--formerly known as Mail.com Media Corporation--said it is selling off its Mail.com email service to United Internet Group, based in Germany. Financial terms of the sale was not announced. The firm said the deal calls for MMC to continue to provide global content to the Mail.com portal, and will also work with United Internet to launch properties and distribute online content across various international markets. MMC runs OnCars.com, Deadline.com, HollywoodLife.com, Movieline.com, BGR.com, YHAwards.com, HollyBaby.com, Fan.com, India.com, and other online content sites. Mail.com was re-launched by Penske back in May of 2007, but since late 2008 has been buying up Internet publishing and content sites.
