According to a report by CNET, Yahoo has decided to set up a Southern California-based media group for its entertainment properties. CNET reports that Yahoo Chief Operating Officer Dan Rosensweig sent an internal email announcing a new Yahoo Media Group to be based in Santa Monica. The new group will focus on Yahoo games, news, sports, finance, movies, and music services, including Launch and Musicmatch. The move comes after a long history of acquisitions in the Southern California area, including Geocities, Overture, and Launch Media. The company apparently will tap its staff in Sunnyvale and New York to establish the new group.
