Microsoft, Broadcom Partner On HD DVD
Microsoft and Irvine-based Broadcom this morning announced that the two companies are in a joint effort to support a new HD DVD reference design. The two compaines said that they have created a new platform that uses Microsoft windows CE and Broadcom's BCM7440 system-on-a-chip to allow OEMs and ODMs to design HD DVD players. Microsoft and Broadcom said that Lite-On IT Corp and Zhenjiang Jiangk]ui Group Co. Ltd. are two of the companies that are planning to use the Microsoft/Broadcom combination to design HD DVD players. Broadcom and Microsoft said that the first players to incorporate the new platform are expected in the second quarter this year.
