SmartSound, Sony In Patent Licensing Deal
Northridge-based SmartSound Software has scored a deal with Sony to license patents covering the firm's automatic editing processes for music, the company said today. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed, however Smartsound said that the non-exclusive license will allow Sony Creative Software to include its automatic music scoring processes in Sony's Cinescore soundtrack product line. SmartSound's technology allows music to be automatically edited to fit user-specified lengths, and is the technology behind the firm's Sonicfire Pro music scoring product. SmartSound's product is used by video and film makers to create soundtracks based on royalty-free music.
