Placebase Enhances Mapping Platform
Los Angeles-based Placebase, a startup developing online mapping APIs and tools, said this morning that it has added a new feature called Proview maps. The new feature allows users of the firm's online mapping tools to control the display of map layers, and differentiate their maps from other online mapping services. Placebase develops interactive maps that can be access using an application programming interface (API), similar to Google Maps and offerings from Yahoo and Microsoft; the firm's mapping applications are used by sites such as Foreclosure.com and others. Placebase said that its new features allow for selection of software color palettes, and turning on and off specific background layers in the maps. The firm said that the new Proview map feature is designed to provide product differentiation for mapping applications.
