Newport Beach-based Conexant said today that the firm's MPEG decoders have been selected by a Chinese manufacturer of set-top boxes. Conexant announced that Skyworth Digital will use the firm's cable set-top-box MPEG decoder for a family of digital video broadcast receivers for the Chinese marketplace. The company said the new hardware design will begun shipping in the People's Republic of China this year. Expected financial impact of the design win was not disclosed. Conexant's chips provide integrated MPEG audio/video decoding, a graphics hardware accelerator, and other functions used by electronic manufacturers designing set-top boxes.
