Rubicon Project, the online advertising optimization firm backed by Clearstone, Mayfield, IDG, and Peacock Equity Fund, announced this morning that it has acquired
SiteScout, a Seattle-based firm providing malware security technology. Financial terms of the buy were not announced. Rubicon said it would use the acquisiton to provide its premium publishers with protection against "malvertising"--the use of online ads to spread malware. Rubicon said that Rob Lipschutz, who was CEO of SiteScout, will lead the firm's Brand Protection offerings. As part of the buy, Rubicon said it will open a Seattle office to take advantage of the engineering talent in the area. Rubicon develops an online service which optimizes which online advertising and online ad networks are used on a web publisher's web site.
