Irvine-based Solarflare has sold its 10 Gigabit ethernet physical layer (PHY) business, the firm said today. According to SOlarflare, it has exited the physical layer PHY business by selling the firm's 10GBASE-T assets to an un-named merchant semiconductor company. Financial terms of the deal, and further details on the specifics of the deal have not been disclosed by the company. According to Solarflare, the move will allow it to focus on its 10GbE server adapters, and particularly its sales in the high frequency trading and HPC market, as well as the virtualization and big data area. Solarflare had been rumored to be in talks with semiconductor maker Marvell; it's unclear who the ultimate buyers of the assets were.
