Demand Media Alum Gets $100M For Domain Registrar
A brand new, domain registration startup headed by a set of ex-Demand Media executives, has just raised an astounding $100M for its efforts. Donuts Inc., headed by former Demand Media President and Chief Strategy Officer Paul Stahura, said today that the funding came from such investors as Austin Ventures, Adams Street Partners, Emergence Capital Partners, TOL Ventures, Generation Partners, and Stahurricane. Stahura, who is still on Demand Media's board of directors, founded domain registrar eNom in 1997, which became central to Demand Media's online media efforts in 2006, when Demand Media acquired his firm. He continued to serve at Demand Media until 2009. Donuts Inc. says it is headquartered in Bellevue, Washington, and also has operations in Los Angeles and elsewhere. Other local Southern California executives involved include Mason Cole, who was most recently at Oversee.net, and Donuts CFO, Kevin Wilson--formerly of ICANN--who is also located in the Los Angeles area.
