Napster Relaunches As Web Service

Los Angeles-based music subscription service Napster has relaunched the firm's web music offering, the firm announced Tuesday, with a new service which does not require software downloads. The firm said that Napster 4.0 allows anyone with a Internet Explorer or Firefox browser to access albums and playlists through its service. PC users who still want to create CDs and synchronize their portable devices with the Napster service are still required to download the firm's client software. However, the new web-based offering opens up access to the service to Mac and Linux users, who previously were unable to use Napster's music download services.
