Any Southern California residents watching the launch of NASA's Glory satellite from Vandenberg Air Force Base early this morning: yes, that was a failed mission. NASA said that the satellite, an Earth-observing satellite intended to improve understanding of how the sun is affected by atmospheric aerosols and climate, failed to reach orbit. The satellite had launched from vandenberg at 2:09 a.m. The $400M satellite is now likely lost somewhere in the Pacific ocean. Vandenberg is the site of frequent launches by NASA.
