Neopets Returns To Roots, Relaunches Games

Los Angeles-based Neopets--the online pet game site, which first launched in 1999, is back--and is pushing forward with a relaunch and resurrection of its catalog of minigames. According to the company--which received $4M in a recent funding round--it has partnered with a flash emulator company, Ruffle, to bring back more than 100 of its games. Neopets had been hit extremely hard by the discontinuation of Flash in 2020. Neopets says it is "reviving the brand" with "community-motivated projects." The return to its roots in providing a pet-based game comes as a result of new ownership of the site, after a ill-fated foray into cryptocurrency and NFTs.
