Newegg Wins Another Patent Suit, Launches Sale In Celebration

Los Angeles-based online retailer Newegg said this morning that it has scored another win over what it called a "patent troll"--and has launched a 24-hour flash sale on its site in celebration. Newegg said it won a patent infringement lawsuit file against the company by TQP Development, which had claimed Newegg infringed upon a patent covering basic online encryption. Newegg said it is fighting an "extortion-based" business model where patent holders file suit, in order to convince companies to pay them off rather than incur the high costs of litigation. Newegg's big celebration sale runs through the rest of today.
