Newport Media Unveils SoC For Mobile TV
Lake Forest-based Newport Media, a semiconductor firm serving the mobile broadcast media market, has added a new System-on-a-Chip for ISDB-T, a version of Japan's Integrated Services Digital Broadcasting-Terrestrial standard. According to Newport Media, its 65nm CMOS single-chip product include all of the components necessary for the standard, which is being used in Japan to convert both television stations and radio stations to digital broadcasts. ISDB-T is also being used by Brazil in its digital television moves. According to Newport Media, the new chips are available now in limited sample quantities, with volume production expected in the first calendar quarter of 2009.
