MagTek Upgrades to USB
Carson-based MagTek (www.magtek.com) has upgraded its card scanner to support the USB standard. The company's IntelliStripe 380 is used for kiosks and ATMs, banking consumer service terminals, custom retail point-of-sale (POS)terminals, and restaurant and hospitality equipment. The unit also supports an RS-232 interface.

SMC Ships New 10/100 Switch
Irvine-based SMC Networks (www.smc.com) announced a new switch in its TigerSwitch line. The company's new eight-port 10/100 switch adds a 100BASE-FX multi mode port and is targeted at small to medium-sized networks. The switch is designed to connect into network backbones, and features VLAN, GVRP, and priority queuing features.

PureSight Finds So Cal Home
Israeli internet content filtering developer iCognito announced Wednesday that it is renaming the company to PureSight, and relocating the company's headquarters to Southern California. The company comes a week after the company named J. Cleve Adams as president and CEO. In a statement, the company attributed the selection of Southern California for its centralized location, proximity to the company's North American customer base, and access to a highly educated labor pool.

Jazz Files For IPO
Newport Beach-based Jazz Semiconductor (www.jazzsemi.com) has filed an S-1 with the SEC. Credit Suisse First Boston and Lehman Brothers are underwriting the IPO, with SG Cowen Securities, Wachovia Capital Markets, Thomas Weisel Partners LLC and Needham & Company co-managing. Jazz is a spinoff of Conexant, and is focused on process technology for the manufacturing of analog and mixed-signal semiconductors.

M7 Networks Raises $3M
La Jolla-based M7 Networks (www.m7networks.com) has raised $7M in a Series C round from Enterprise Partners, Sienna Ventures, and other investors. M7 is developing advanced wireless services which link wireless carriers and content providers, and has received previous rounds of funding from Enterprise Partners, QUALCOMM, and Sienna.
