Novatel Expands Board
San Diego-based Novatel Wireless (www.novatelwireless.com) announced it had added David Werner to its board. Werener will also serve as Chair of its Audit Committee. Werner is a partner at Engineered Components, and was previously CFO and EVP for Day Runner.

Moorpark-based SMTEK has named Robert Miller as VP Worldwide Sales and Marketing. Miller joins from Future Electronics. SMTEK provides electronics manufacturing services to OEMs.

Quest Inks US Army Win
Irvine-based Quest Software's Microsoft Infrastructure Management products have been selected by the U.S. Army's European Command. According to Quest, their products will be used to migrate multiple Windows NT networks into a single network, and to consolidate 248 Windows NT domains into 3.

Occam Completes Private Placement
Santa Barbara-based Occam Networks (www.occamnetworks.com) announced it has raised $4.2M from Alta Partners in a private placement. The company had earlier raised $4.0M from affiliated funds in this closing. Occam is developing broadband access equipment for telephone companies.

Cyrano Sciences Acquired by UK Firm
Pasadena-based Cyrano Sciences (www.cyranosciences.com) has been acquired by Smiths Detection for $15M plus earn-out. Cyrano's develops sensors for detecting chemical vapors, used by government, military, and industrial customers. The company has been renamed Smiths Detection - Pasadena, where it employs 23. Cyrano raised $23M from Rustic Canyon, Ridgestone Corp, and Oak Investment Partners in 2001.
