3D Systems Signs Hearing Aid Manufacturer
Valencia-based 3D Systems (www.3dsystems.com) has inked a deal with Dreve, a developer of resins used for the manufacturing of hearing aids. Dreve will include 3D Systems technology for the instant manufacturing of hearing aids. 3D Systems develops systems for rapid prototyping and manufacturing of objects.

5G Wireless Adds Reseller
Marina Del Rey-based 5G Wireless (www.5gwireless.com) has added a new reseller for the company's wireless network products. Network Installation Corp. has joined its Value Added Reseller (VAR) Program and will provide installation of its broadband 802.11b compatible technology.

Ixia Adds Power Over Ethernet Tester
Calabasas-based Ixia (www.ixiacom.com) has announced a new tester for Power over Ethernet (PoE), a new standard which provides for the distribution of power over existing Cat 5 or better networking equipment. The new standard is being used for powering wireless LAN access points, IP phone sets, and more. The test system can be used with existing Ixia test modules to both test power consumption as well as Ethernet traffic loads.

Caltech Funds Nanoscience Institute
Pasadena-based Caltech (kni.caltech.edu) reports that it has received a $7.5M grant from Fred Kavli and the Kavli Foundation to create a new institute focused on nanotechnology. The new center will focus on innovative research at the frontiers of nanoscale science and engineering, according to the University. Professor Michael Roukes has been named the director of the institute. Kavli is the founder, chair, and CEO of Moorpark-based Kavlico.

Computer Associates Buys Miramar
Computer Associates announced that it has purchased Santa Barbara-based Miramar Systems, which develops desktop management software. Miramar's Desktop DNA product helps users migrate applications and user information from machine to machine. The product simplifies PC and operating system upgrades. Terms of the all-cash deal were not disclosed.
