Reinhold is President of SciAutonics (, a company which was formed to compete in the DARPA Grand Challenge. SciAutonics was among the top teams at the challange, which was held this last Saturday, and made it 6.7 miles along the course with their SciAutonics II entry, just behind Carnegie Mellon's Red Team (tops at 7.4 miles).

Bitfone Raises $21M C
Laguna Niguel-based Bitfone has raised a Series C round of funding in the amount of $21M. The round was lead by Prism Venture Partners, and included previous investors Nokia, Nexit, St. Paul Venture Capital, 3i Ventures, CIR Ventures, KTB Ventures, and Flextronics. Bitfone is developing technology for over-the-air update of cellular phone firmware.

Broadcom Signs Bell Micro, Intros GigE Chips
Irvine-based Broadcom ( announced that it has signed on Bell Microproducts as a distributor of its RAIDCore serial ATA controllers. Bell will represent the company internationally. Separately, the company announced its new NetLink family of Gigabit Ethernet controllers, focused on small to medium sized businesses.

Ixia Adds ITU G.709 Support
Calabasas-based Ixia ( has added support for the ITU G.709 Optical Transport Network standard. The new G.709 Load Module is designed to test these network elements working with 10Gig Ethernet LAN, WAN, or OC-192 over SONET. The G.709 standard is used for high speed optical networking.

Parasoft Cleans Up SOAP
Monrovia-based Parasoft has upgraded its SOAPtest product to add testing of Web Services Interoperability. The company's tool now verifies the proper interoperability of SOAP products, by checking conformance to basic Web Services requirements.
