Vitesse Enables 4G SFP Support
Camarillo-based Vitesse Semiconductor (www.vitesse.com) has added support for intelligent Small Form Factor Pluggable (SFP) modules for the emerging 4G Fibre Channel market. The company's optical receivers now support the higher 4 Gbps data rate for storage area networks, and can be incorporated into SFPs that support the new, higher data rate.

Mindspeed Signs LG Electronics-
Newport Beach-based Mindspeed Technologies (www.mindspeed.com) announced that LG Electronics is now shipping its OC-12 ATM components in LG's MSG40 multi-service switch. LG's multi-service switch is used for protocol switching in ATM networks.

Peregrine Adds Mixed Signal ICs
San Diego-based Peregrine Semiconductor (www.peregrine-semi.com) has added a new line of mixed signal communications ICs to its lineup. The company's new Digital Step Attenuators (DSAs) enable RF applications such as cellular base station, fixed frequency transceivers, and cable television system equipment. The components are Peregrine's first commercially targeted DSA product.

PMC Sierra, Vativ In Marketing Deal
San Diego-based Vativ is in a marketing deal with PMC Sierra, to provide devices for next generation voice and data communications. Vativ's line interface unit (LIU) devices are used for LAN, WAN and SAN applications. Vativ is backed by Redpoint Ventures, Mission Ventures, Forrest Binkley Brown, and the Viterbi Group.

X1 Partners With NewsGator
Pasadena-based X1 Technologies and RSS software company NewsGator have partnered together to provide search capability in NewsGator's solution. NewsGator automatically retrieves news from news sites, weblogs, and other sources supporting RSS syndication format into Microsoft Outlook. X1 is providing email, file, attachment, and content searching in Windows. X1 is backed by Idealab.

Ernst and Young Releases VC Survey
Ernst and Young/VentureOne has released first quarter VC data for Southern California, which shows and increase in VC investments in the LA and San Diego areas, and a definite upswing in both IT and healthcare investments. The survey show a total of 26 IT rounds of $252M last quarter, up from $147M the previous quarter, and 15 healthcare rounds totaling $268M up from $209M the previous quarter. The most active investors were Zone Ventures, Forward Ventures, and Enterprise Partners Venture Capita (More info...)
