IOGEAR Launches Combo FireWire/USB Drives
Irvine-based IOGEAR (www.iogear.com) has launched new FireWire 800 and USB 2.0 combination disk drives aimed at consumer markets. The new drives, which range from 80GB to 250GB, are compatible with both PC and Mac platforms. The drives provide extremely high data transfer rates of up to 800Mbps for FireWire and 480Mbps for USB 2.0.

Metapa Ships Cluster Database Platform
Sherman Oaks-based Metapa (www.metapa.net) is unveiling the company's new Cluster DataBase (CDB) software for Linux-based business intelligence functions. The new database clustering platform allows companies to deploy very large databases through inexpensive clusters of Linux or Solaris machines. Neven Vision Partners With Biometric Security Firm
Los Angeles-based Neven Vision (www.nevenvision.com), a developer of facial recognition software, has partnered with Graphco Holdings, a biometric security applications company, to deliver access control systems for the military and government markets. UCLA Creates Venture Investment Fund
The University of California, Los Angeles said yesterday that it has created a special investment fund created to accelerate laboratory technology developed at the school into commercial companies. The new fund will provide up to $25,000 to individual faculty whose research show promise in the marketplace but lacks other funding. Callwave Files For IPO
Santa Barbara-based Callwave (www.callwave.com) has filed for an IPO to raise up to $69M. Callwave provides software-based services which allow customers to bridge calls between wireless, home, and PCs. According to the company's IPO filing, the company now has over 780,000 paying subscribers, and earned $1.6M on revenues of $22M in 2003.
