Vitesse Ships Signal Conditioning ICs
Camarillo-based Vitesse (www.vitesse.com) announced two new signal conditioning products for high speed interconnects. The company's new VSC7104 and VSC7108 Signal Conditoners are used to improve high speed signal quality for voice, data, and video information in chip, board, and backplane applications.

QUALCOMM Lands PCS Provider
San Diego-based QUALCOMM (www.qualcomm.com) announced that NTELOS, a provider of wireless PCS services in the mid-Atlantic, has launched a suite of wireless products and services based on its BREW solution. The services provide enhanced wireless applications to NTELOS subscribers, including email, games, ringtones, and other applications. BREW provides manufacturers, developers, and others a framework for designing wireless applications.

AMCC Apoints COO
San Diego-based Applied Micro Circuits Corp (www.amcc.com) has appoitned Tom Tullie as COO of the company. Tullie will oversee all of AMCC's business units, as well as his existing role heading worldwide sales. Tullie is also general manager of the company's communications unit.

Arkeia Adds HP-UX Support
Carlsbad-based Arkeia (www.arkeia.com) has expanded the company's backup solution support to HP-UX 11i v2. The company said that its backup and recovery solution now supports the latest version of the HP-UX operating system based on the Intel Itanium architecture. Arkeia provides enterprise network backup solutions, bare metal disaster recovery, and integration with Oracle, DB2, and other databases.

Broadcom Ships RAID Software Targeted at IT Security
Irvine-based Broadcom (www.broadcom.com) has shipped an enhanced version of the company's XelCore RAID Software. The company's RAID software stack is used to create multiple mirrors of data, and is designed to specifically protect against viruses and worms by providing hidden copies of data. That data is are only available to administrators. DTS Wins Trademark Infringement Lawsuit
Agoura Hills-based DTS (Digital Theater Systems) said yesterday that the company has obtained a settlement in a trademark infringement lawsuit it brought against Mintek Digital, for distributing DVD players claiming DTS features without obtaining a license from DTS. The case was to proceed to trial on the issue of damages, however DTS obtained an out of court settlement from Mintek. DTS said that it is aggressively looking to pursue companies which are using its trademarks without license.

DOJ Drops Movielink Investigation
The Department of Justice has dropped its investigation into Movielink, the online film rental service backed by Sony, Warner Bros. MGM, Paramount, and Universal. The department was investigating antitrust charges that were put forth by competitors to the service, including now defunct Intertainer. The DOJ said that its investigation has found that the joint venture did not harm competition or the consumers of movies, and that it would continue to monitor licensing in the area.
