PivX Inks Partnership With Consulting Firm
Newport Beach-based PivX Solutions has entered a strategic partnership with NCX Group, a business risk management consulting firm. NCX will act as a market development partner for PivX threat mitigation solutions. According to the company, NCX has a network of over 9000 resellers. PivX provides vulnerability assessment and desktop security software applications.

Arkeia Backs Up LDAP Servers
Carlsbad-based Arkeia (www.arkeia.com) has released a new backup plug-in for hot backup of Access Protocol (LDAP) servers. LDAP is used to create centralized network directories of user information, so that multiple systems can use a central database for user authentication. LDAP is being used by enterprises to enable single-sign on capability for diverse systems, ranging from LAN resources to email, to user applications. MRV Adds VPLS Capabilities to Routers
Chatsworth-based MRV Communications, which develops and provides optical Ethernet access solutions, announced that it has added new private LAN services (VPLS) auto-discovery to its suite of multiprotocol label switching-based routers. The capability enables multipoint virtual private networks for enterprises, and automates what was once a manual process for service providers.

Boingo Bounces Into PDAs
Santa Monica-based Boingo Wireless (www.boingo.com) has announced new versions of its Wi-Fi network access client for Palm OS and Windows Mobile 2003. Pocket Boingo for Windows Mobile 2003 is available now, Pocket Boingo for the Palm Tungsten C will be available later this summer, with versions for other Palm platforms following. Vantage Oncology Raises $15M
El Segundo-based Vantage Oncology has raised $15M from New Enterprise Associates, Conning Capital Partners, Salix Ventures, and Versant Ventures. Vantage operates centers for the treatment of cancer, using advanced radiation oncology. The Series B round included NEA as the lead and new investor. The company is headed by Michael T. Fiore, former President of Comprehensive Cancer Centers and COO of Salick Health Care.

Napster, Best Buy In Marketing Agreement
Los Angeles-based Napster (www.napster.com) announced that it has entered into a multi-year agreement with Best Buy, where Best Buy will promote the Napster online music service to its stores. Napster, the division of Roxio which was formed out of the defunct Napster file swapping service, recently launched a online subscription music download service. Qualcomm Taps 3D Audio
San Diego-based Qualcomm (www.qualcomm.com) said yesterday that has licensed technology from QSound Labs, which the company will incorporate into Qualcomm's Mobile Station Modem chipsets. Qualcomm will use QSound's Q3D and QXpander software to enhance its chipsets, allowing for the creation of a 3D audio effect with headsets or two speakers.
