Google Acquires Picasa
Pasadena-based Picasa has been acquired by Google. Picasa develops digital photo management software, and had a prior deal with Google's Blogger service to integrate the company's photo organization software with Google's blogging tools. The company's software provides automatic photo organization for Windows, with automatic categorization of digital photos, search, browse, and enhancement tools. Picasa is backed by Idealab and was founded in October of 2001. Terms of the deal were not disclosed (More info...)

Language Weaver Upgrades Translation Software
Marina Del Rey-based Language Weaver (www.languageweaver.com) has upgraded its machine translation software to version 2.2. The new software improves user friendliness, faster performance through multithreading, Netscape browser support, and transliteration control for language pairs. Language Weaver is develping automatic language translation software.

TransDimension Embeds USB Software in HP Device
Irvine-based TransDimension said yesterday that its UHC124 host controller and Softlinx USBLink host software has been incorporated into the HP PSC 1315 All-in-One Printer, Scanner, Copier. Transdimension provides hardware and software components which enable USB connectivity for manufacturers.

Webmetrics Launches Web Reporting Service
San Diego-based Webmetrics (www.webmetrics.com) has launched a new hosted Web site performance and analystics service. The company's new HitAnalyzer services is subscription-based, and provides traditional web site analytics to customers. The new services works in conjunction with Webmetrics' existing monitoring tools for monitoring web site performance.

Boingo Teams With Earthlink
Santa Monica-based Boingo Wireless (www.boingo.com) has signed a deal with Earthlink to provide Wi-Fi access to Earthlink customers. Earthlink has licensed Boingo's SDK for incorporating Wi-Fi access and connectivity for Windows and Mac computers. The deal comes as a part of an extension of a Platform Services agreement which also calls for Earthlink to continue to use Boingo's high-speed Wi-Fi roaming service.

Clean Air Power Finds $6.4M
San Diego-based Clean Air Power announced that it has closed a third round of venture funding from EnerTech Capital, Nth Power, CIBC Capital, RBC Capital Partners, Angeleno Investors, and Endeavor Capital Management. Clean Air Power is developing technology that helps to improve diesel engine performance while lowering emissions.
