3D Systems Appoint VP
Valencia-based 3D Systems announced that it has named Assad Ansari as VP Global Engineering. Ansari joins from Giddings & Lewis, a division of ThyssenKrupp Metal Cutting. 3D Sysetms provides technology used to create 3D objects for design communications, prototyping, and manufacturing.

Benefit Software Upgrades Solution
Santa Barbara-based Benefit Software (www.bsiweb.com) announced that it has upgraded its Fringe Facts Communicator software, a program that produces personalized employee benefit statements. The new version, 6.31, allows users to print employee benefit summaries and costs to PDF files, and is targeted at employers and insurance brokers to show the high cost and value of employer paid benefits to employees.

NovaStor Software Bundled With Sony
Simi Valley-based NovaStor announced that its NovaBACKUP software is being bundled with Sony's new blue laser Professional Disc for DATA (ProDATA) solution kits. Novastor's software provides backup and disaster recovery, as well as scheduling of backups and support for a wide array of operating systems. Sony's new Blue Laser drive provides high capacity backup for near-line and archival storage applications.

CarsDirect Unveiling Used Car Demand Predictor
Los Angeles-based CarsDirect.com said that it is launching a Used Vehicle Demand Index service for car dealers to help them gauge demand and supply for specific vehicles. CarsDirect's index uses online interest in specific automobiles, based on searches on CarsDirect web sites and listings for used vehicles. The monthly analysis is intended to help dealers plan inventory acquisitions and determine pricing strategy.

PeopleSupport Estimates Offering Price
Los Angeles-based PeopleSupport has estimated an offering price for its IPO between $10 and $12 a share, and said that it is offering 4,545,455 shares of stock, according to an S-1 filed yesterday. PeopleSupport provides offshore customer management outsourcing in the Phillipines, providing call centers based in that country to handle calls from the travel and hospitality, technology, retail, and other industries. Venture Survey Shows Investments Slow
Ernst & Young's latest venture survey shows that venture capital investments for Q2 showed a slow venture market in Southern California. The survey reports a total of 37 venture deals and $364M in investments for Q2, versus 50 venture deals and $633M in investments for Q1. However, nationally, activity was relatively flat at 509 venture deals versus 492 in Q1, and $5.1B invested versus $5.3B in Q1.
