X1 Upgrades Desktop Search Software
Pasadena-based X1 Technologies (www.x1.com) has released an upgrade to its desktop search software. X1's new version, 04.08, adds the ability to perform phrase searches, boolean search capability, search saving, and full support for attachments in Outlook Express and Netscape Mail. The company's software adds powerful web search features to the desktop, with the ability to search Microsoft Outlook mail, desktop folders, and attachments far easier than any available Microsoft tools.

WiredRed Adds Web Services To Web Conferencing
San Diego-based WiredRed Software (www.wiredred.com) announced that it is now offering XML-based web services software interfaces to its e/pop Web Conferencing software. The company's video conferencing/application sharing/PowerPoint service can now be controlled by third party applications such as workflow, document and content management, CRM, and more. The Web Services software interface gives application control over secure connections.

SMC Adds Wireless Traveler's Kit
Irvine-based SMC Networks (www.smc.com) is now shipping a new 802.11g Wireless Traveler's Kit. The new product provides everything needed to connect to wired hotel broadband in a travel kit, including USB, Ethernet, power cords, and a device which converts any hotel wired broadband connection into a wireless access point. Userplane Introduces Flash-based AV Recording
Los Angeles-based Userplane (www.userplane.com) has announced an upgrade to its Userplane Web Recorder software, which allows users to record audio and video using Macromedia Flash. The new software works without requiring special plug-ins, and allows users to record audio and video with any attached web camera. Userplane is targeting the new applicatoin to social networking and online dating websites, to allow users to create their own A/V profiles; web-based email for A/V mail; and more.

Ask Jeeves, Citysearch in Local Search Partnership
Pasadena-based Citysearch (www.citysearch.com) and Ask Jeeves are in a partnership to provide Citysearch's local content and data to the Ask Jeeves search engine (www.ask.com). Ask.com search engine users will be able to tap into Citysearch data next month, including local business information such as restaurants, retails, travel, and professional services information. The deal will also include editorial and user reviews of local businesses.

Picasa Price Tag: $4.7M in Pre-IPO Google Stock
The Wall Street Journal reports that search engine leader Google paid a total of $4.7M in stock for Pasadena-based Picasa, the digital photo management software company that it acquired last month. The acquisition amount was disclosed in a filing with the SEC last week. Picasa is backed by Idealab, and offers a photo management software suite for Windows computer users.
