McAfee Buys Foundstone For $86M
Security software giant McAfee Inc. announced today that it is buying Irvine-based Foundstone for $86M in cash. Foundstone provides intrusion prevention software, as well as supporting consulting and education services. The company's products are provided both to enterprises in the form of a secure appliance, as well as installable software for small to mid-sized organizations. RF Magic Appoints VP
San Diego-based RF Magic said that it has appointed Dean Barnat as VP Operations. The company said that Barnat will be responsible for managing the company's supply chain and day to day manufacturing logistics. Barnat was most recently Director of Professional Services for Syntricity. RF Magic is developing broadband radio frequency (RF) silicon, targeted at the digital broadcast entertainment and consumer broadband markets.

Certance Ships New LTO Drives
Costa Mesa-based Certance (www.certance.com) announced it has introduced a new set of LTO Ultrium tape drives. The Certaince CL 800 LTO Ultrium 3 series is targeted at enterprise and large businesses, and the CL 400H LTO Ultrium 2 Half Height series is targeted at the small and home office segment of the market. The CL 800 supports backup speeds of up to 490 Gbytes per hour, and the CL 400H with speeds of up to 144 Gbytes per hour. Halozyme Signs Baxter
San Diego-based Halozyme Therapeutics announced that it has signed an exclusive agreement with Baxter Healthcare. Baxter will market, distribute, and sell Halozyme's recombinant human hyaluronidase enzyme in the United States and Puerto Rico, upon approval from the FDA. The company's new product is designed to enhance the delivery of local anesthesia and other applications. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

MatchNet Files, Withdraws IPO
Beverly Hills-based MatchNet, which provides online personal advertisements, has quickly filed and withdrawn an IPO. The company was looking to raise up to $100M in an IPO, which was being underwritten by JPMorgan, Piper Jaffray, CIBC World Markets, and Pacific Crest Securities. The company filed for an IPO on August 4th, but on the 12th quickly changed its mind and asked to withdraw its offering. Active Network Withdraws IPO
La Jolla-based Active Network has withdrawn its $46M IPO. According to a filing by the company with the SEC, the company requested a withdrawal of its filing due to "unfavorable market conditions". Active Network provides registration and online services for community sports activities and events. The company had filed for an IPO in April, and reported a loss of $1.3M on revenue of $15M in 2003.
