Akonix Protects Against Latest IM Worms
San Diego-based Akonix Systems (www.akonix.com) said that the company's instant messaging security solution is protecting enterprises against the latest Instant Messaging carried viruses and worms. The company said that its Akonix L7 Enterprise product is protecting users against the Download. jet Trojan horse which is currently spreading on AIM and ICQ networks. Akonix is targeting the protection of enterprises against viruses and threats carried by instant messaging protocols and software.

eCost Prices IPO
Torrance-based eCost.com, a subsidiary of PC Mall which provides online discount computer hardware and software, said that it has priced its IPO. The company has priced its stock at $5.80 per share, down from the original $9.00 to $11.00 range it estimated earlier. The company is offering 3,465,000 shares of stock and will trade on the Nasdaq as "ECST". The offering is worth $20M, which is the minimum market value of stock required for listing on the Nasdaq. Intel, Linksys Team On Wireless
Irvine-based Linksys (www.linksys.com) and Santa Clara-based Intel announced that the two companies will deliver new software technology for reducing the complexity of setup, securing, and operating wireless networks. The Intel Smart Wireless Solutions software is the result of a collaboration between Intel and Linksys, and will be delievered as part of Intel Centrino notebooks and selected Linksys wireless routers and access points. Ambit Biosciences Raises $21M
San Diego-based Ambit Biosciences announced that it has raised a Series C funding of $21.0M led by Roche Venture Fund. The company is developing biopharmaceuticals based on a proprietary high throughput human kinase assay drug screening panel. Ambit is also backed by Avalon Ventures, Forward Ventures, GIMV, and Perseus-Soros BioPharmaceutical Fund.
