ViewSonic Appoints General Manager
Walnut-based ViewSonic said today that it has hired Greg Avera as general manager of Wireless Network Techonologies for ViewSonic Americas. Avera will manage ViewSonic's strategic business plan for the company's wireless network division. Avera joins from D-Link Systems, where he was VP of U.S. Channel Sales.

Bluebeam Selected By Design Firm
Pasadena-based Bluebeam (www.bluebeam.com) said yesterday that design firm David Evans and Associates has selected the company's PDF solution. The design firm will use Bluebeam's Pushbutton Plus solution to generate PDF files, which allow their employees to share their CAD and Windows documents with vendors and others. Figure 8 Wireless Inks Agreement With Freescale
San Diego-based Figure 8 Wireless has signed a partnership agreement with Freescale Semiconductor to provide its ZigBee protocol software on Freescale semiconductors. The partnership calls for Figure 8's Wireless ZigBee protocol software to ship with the Freescale MC13192 data modem and associated controller. The new ZigBee (802.15.4) protocol provides a low cost wireless protocol aimed at monitoring, automation, and control applications for the home and in industrial environments. Microfabrica Improves Micromanufacturing Process
Burbank-based Microfabrica said that it has improved the company's microfabrication capability with a new ability to manufacture structures from 2 to 50 microns. The improved ability to develop three-dimensional microdevices allows designers to build taller devices and systems using Microfabrica's capabilities. Simple Technologies Ships Ultra Low Profile DIMMS
SimpleTech announced yesterday at the Intel Developer Forum that the company is now providing ultra low profile, registered Dual Inline Memory Modules (DIMMs) and DDR Mini-DIMM Memory Modules for the blade server market. The new memory modules are targeted at networking and storage applications, and are available in sizes from 256MB to 2GB. SimpleTech develops DIMMs, flash, and other memory products.

CarsDirect Branches Out Into Home Mortgages
Los Angeles-based CarsDirect.com (www.carsdirect.com) has branched out into the home mortgage destination, with the launch of LoanStore.com. The new service provides research, buying tools, and other similar services for shoppers looking for home mortgages, as well as online applications and quotes. Alereon Taps Jazz Semiconductor for Foundry
Newport Beach-based Jazz Semiconductor has been selected by Alereon, a fabless semiconductor company developing Ultra Wideband (UWB) wireless chipsets. Alereon will use Jazz to develop its integrated Ultra Wideband transceiver for wireless universal serial bus (USB) applications. Jazz will provide high volume silicon germanium BiCMOS chips for Alereon. Jazz has been focusing on wireless applications at its foundry.

JAMDAT Adds eBay CFO, Estimates IPO Pricing
Los Angeles-based JAMDAT Mobile announced that Rajiv Dutta, eBay's CFO, has agreed to join the company's board of directors once the company completes it IPO. Dutta currently oversees all of eBay's financial operations. JAMDAT also filed an amended S-1 with the SEC, and estimated that its IPO pricing would be between $13.00 to $15.00 per share. The company is looking to raise up to $91M in its initial public offering. JAMDAT develops games for cell phones and other mobile devices.

Opus Medical Acquired for $130M
San Juan Capistrano-based Opus Medical has entered into an agreement to be acquired by Arthrocare Corp for $130M. The deal is a combination of cash and stock. Opus develops medical devices used for minimally invasive surgical procedures, including a device for arthroscopic rotator cuff repair. The company also provides other tissue-to-bone and tissue-to-tissue repair systems for orthopedic applications, focused on sports medicine procedures.
