RampRate Expands Board of Advisors
Santa Monica-based RampRate (www.ramprate.com) said that it has expanded its customer board of advisors. Cecilia Claudio, former CIO of Zurich Financial Services, will join the advisory board. She was also SVP and CIO of Farmers Insurance Group, and Anthem Inc. RampRate is an IT outsourcing advisor, helping companies to negotiate IT services contracts such as co-location and hosting.

Infommersion Adds Execs
San Diego-based Infommersion has added Kirk Cunningham as VP of Marketing and Mary Brigden as VP of Sales. Cunningham joins from Estee Lauder and the company's online Gloss.com division. He also has served at Interpacket Networks. Brigden comes from Oracle, and has prior experience at Digital Systems Research. Infommersion develops software for interactive data visualization.

JMAR Gets $2.1M Government Funding
San Diego-based JMAR Technologies has received $2.1M in funding from the US Government's Naval Air Warfare Center. The company said that the funding will go to developing X-Ray microscope and X-Ray nano probe research and development for next-generation lithography, helping to advance the next generation chip making technology. JMAR has existing funding from DARPA for its X-ray instruments, which can be used for both defense and commercial applications.

New Age Electronic Manages Disney PCs
Carson-based New Age Electronics (www.newageinc.com) said yesterday that it has been tapped to manage the new Disney-branded Medion PC products in the U.S. market. New Age will handle logistics for the Disney PCs, including order fulfillment and shipment of the PCs and peripherals. Medion is a developer of PCs and consumer electronics. new Age provides logistics, distribution, and remanufacturing services for consumer technology manufacturers.

Breece Hill Acquires Avail
Data storage firm Breece Hill announced yesterday that it is acquiring Escondido-based Avail Solutions, a developer of data migration and management software. The company said that Breece Hill will integrate the Avail software into its backup, recovery, data protection, and disaster recovery solutions. Avail's software provides file level backup features for the enterprise. Terms were not disclosed. Breece Hill provides a disk-based backup appliance for the data storage market.

AVST Raises $10M
Foothill Ranch-based Applied Voice & Speech Technologies has raised a Series B funding of $10M. funding came from Ignition partners, with participation from Dolphin Equity Partners. AVST develops and markets a speech applications platform for enterprises, which provides advanced voice messaging, unified messaging, speech-enabled auto attendant features, and more.
