5G Wireless Gets Funding
Marina Del Rey-based 5G Wireless announced that it has received $1M in private funding and a committment for $6.6M more, from an undisclosed investor. The company, which is publicly listed on the over the counter market, is developing wireless equipment for campus networks, supporting both Wi-Fi and fixed point to point wireless services. The funding comes in the form of convertible notes and warrants.

Qualcomm Buys Semiconductor Design Firm
San Diego-based Qualcomm has made another acquisition, this time of Spike Technologies, a semiconductor design firm which specializes in deep submicron process technologies, circuit development, and design and verification engineering. Qualcomm will pay $19M in cash for the firm, which is headquartered in Milpitas but runs its design center in Bangalore India. Qualcomm said that Spike will be integrated into its Qualcomm CDMA Technologies (QCT) divison to help increase time to market for its 90 (More info...)

PeopleSupport Prices IPO Offering
Los Angeles-based offshore outsourcing firm PeopleSupport announced yesterday that it has priced its IPO at $7.00 per share. The company is set to begin trading on the NASDAQ as PSPT sometime today. PeopleSupport provides outsourcing of business processes, customer service, and call centers in the Phillipines. The price of its IPO is down from an original estimated range of $10 to $12 per share. CallWave IPO Debuts On Market
Santa Barbara-based CallWave's initial public offering started trading Thursday on the NASDAQ under the symbol CALL, as the company sold 4 million shares at $10 per share. The offering netted the firm $40M and started trading at the middle of its estimated $9 to $11 range. Callwave offers software and services that bridge calls to PCs, as well as FAX and voicemail. FutureTrade Raises $10.6M
Lake Forest-based FutureTrade has raised a Series D funding of $10.6M. Funding came from Smart Technology Ventures, with participation by previous investor Menlo Ventures. FutureTrade is developing electronic trading tools and services aimed at institutional traders and hedge fund managers.
