ViewSonic Appoints European VP
Walnut-based ViewSonic said yesterday that it has appointed Jan Jensen as President of the company's European operations. Jensen will head strategic direction and new business development for ViewSonic's products in Europe. Jensen joins from Proxim Wireless Networks where he was a VP. Jensen has also served with Metro International, Gateway, and Siemens.

MTI Appoints CFO
Tustin-based storage solutions provider MTI Technology has appointed a new CFO. MTI has appointed Scott Poteracki as EVP and CFO, replacing Todd Schaeffer, who the company said is leaving to pursue other interests. Poteracki was most recently CFO for high performance computing maker Cray, Inc., and also has served at Broadcom, Racal Instruments, and Motorola.

JAMDAT Ships Game For Verizon Users
Los Angeles-based JAMDAT Mobile has released its latest wireless game, Bejeweled, a gem-matching puzzle game, through Verizon Wireless Get It Now application download service. The mobile game publisher said that the multi-player game was licensed from PopCap Games, and adapted to wireless by JAMDAT. The new game is sold on a monthly basis on selected Verizon download-enabled phones, at $2.99 a month for access.

Qualcomm Taps Bitfone Firmware Technology
Laguna Nigel-based Bitfone has scored a major customer for its over the air firmware technology for cell phones, as Qualcomm announced yesterday that it will offer advanced firmware over-the-air updates on BREW-enabled handsets. Qualcomm announced that the company's BREW development environment for cell phone handset manufacturers will include advanced firmware updating over the air, utilizing Bitfone's firmware updating technology and software from Insignia Solutions. Language Weaver Receives Follow On Investment
Los Angeles-based Language Weaver announced that it has received a second investment from In-Q-Tel, the CIA's venture capital arm. Language Weaver had announced an initial close to a Series B $4.0M round of funding at the beginning of this month, from Sulphur Creek Ventures, Athenaeum Fund, and Palisades Ventures. Networks In Motion Receives $5M
Irvine-based Networks In Motion has formally announced the close of its Series B Venture funding. The company raised $5M from Redpoint Ventures and Mission Ventures. Networks In Motion said that the funding will be used to grow its core personnel. Networks In Motion is developing location-based services and software, based on GPS technology. SAIC Acquires Systems Engineering Firm
San Diego-based Science Applications International Corporation (SAIC) announced that it has acquired a Washington DC-based systems engineering firm, Presearch Incorporated. The defense giant will combine Presearch's naval systems engineering and data mining expertise with SAIC's own practices. SAIC said that all of Presearch's 150 employees will join SAIC's Research and Intelligence group. Terms of the acquisition were not disclosed.

United Online Buys Classmates For $100M
Woodland Hills-based United Online said yesterday that it has agreed to acquire Classmates Online, a provider of alumni-networking services, for $100M cash. Classmates provides a subscription service for high school, college, military, and other alumni to connect with one another. According to United Online, Classmates has 1.4 million pay subscribers and 10.3 million active accounts in its database of people, generating $54M in operating revenues.
