Lynx Expands Photonic Switch Line
Calabasas-based Lynx Photonic Networks said that it has added a new line of optical switches for telecom carriers. The company said that it has introduced the LightLEADER 3701, an intelligent all-optical switch designed for protecting optical channels. The company's hardware automatically switches between optical channels when it detects failures in a fiber network.

Napster Makes Foray Into Wireless Phones
Los Angeles-based Napster, Roxio's online music division, announced this morning that its portable music subscription service is now available for users of AT&T Wireless and Audiovox SMT5600 Smartphones. The compatability of the service allows mobile phone users to download and play full length music onto the Audiovox phone. Qualte Raises $3M
Los Angeles-based Qualte announced this morning that it has successfully completed a $3M round of funding. The funding was led by PMC Global. Qualte provides online hosted customer support applications, which helps businesses automate their online customer support. PMC's Gary Kamins joins Qualte's board as a part of the financing.

VC Firms Raise $5.5B
The National Venture Capital Association and Thomson Venture Economics is reporting that venture firms raised $5.5B in funds in the third quarter. That compares to $3.1B raised last quarter, and $2.6B the quarter previous. The report found that there were 46 funds that raised money in Q3, bringing the YTD total of new funds to 125 raising a total of $11.2B for the year--a healthy increase over the previous two years.
