Farstone Ships Security Suite
Irvine-based FarStone has announced a new consumer-focused security suite. The company's Protect & Restore solutions include an antivirus solution, firewall, privacy control, popup blocking, and file and hard drive backup. The suite bundles eTrust EZ Antivirus from Computer Associates, Farstone's HackerSmacker personal firewall, and software from RestoreIT for backup and recovery.

Digital Evolution Announced XML VPN Appliance
Santa Monica-based Digital Evolution announced this morning that it has begun shipping a new XML VPN product family. The company, which provides Web services security and management software, said that the appliance makes it easy for companies to deploy their web services tools at selected partners. The appliance provides security, provisioning, and manageability features for web services. Gluecode Ships Application Deployment Software
Los Angeles-based Gluecode Software announced that it has shipped its software for application deployment on open source platforms. The company's Gluecode JOE provide Java-certified rapid application development. Gluecode said that its release is based on core open source technology from the Apache Software Foundation, including the Apache Geronimo application server. eHarmony Links Up With USA TODAY
Pasadena-based eHarmony and Gannett Co., owner of USA TODAY, announced this morning that the tewo have launched a partnership to provide online personals for USA TODAY and other Gannett daily newspapers. eHarmony's online personals service will be featured on all of Gannett's properties, where readers will have access to eHarmony's personals matching system. Amgen Creates $100M VC Arm
Thousand Oaks-based Amgen announced Friday that it has created a new venture capital fund, Amgen Ventures, focused on biotechnology investments. Amgen said that the fund, with an initial commitment of $100M, will invest in early stage biotechnology companies developing human therapeutics. The new venture firm will be based in San Diego, and also leverage Amgen sites in Seattle, San Francisco, Thousand Oaks, and Boston.
