STI Raises $10.9M
Santa Barbara-based Superconductor Technologies announced this week that it has raised $10.9M in a registered direct offering for its stock. The placement agent for the transaction was Needham and Company. A registered direct offering is similar to a PIPE (private investment in public equity), which has been popular with institutional investors and venture capitalists looking to take positions in companies that went public too early.

Kintera Gets Private Placement
San Diego-based Kintera announced this morning that it has entered into an agreement to raise $17.5M in a private placement related to its acquisition of Intuit's financial management unit for nonprofits. The company said that the private placement would be used to replenish funds used to acquire Intuit's American Fundware unit. Metapa Appoints VP
Sherman Oaks-based Metapa announced that it has appointed a new VP of Engineering. Siuling Ku has been appointed as VP of Engineering to lead the company's clustered database development efforts. Su joins from Moonlight Systems, where she was a Sr. Director of engineering, and also has served at Informix, Cloudscape, Sybase, and Oracle.

SMC Ships New Ethernet Switch
Irvine-based SMC Networks said today that it has shipped a new enterprise switch. The SMC TigerStack III is a new, 24-port 10/100 stackable managed switch. The switch features the ability to be stacked up to eight units high and managed under a single IP address, and includes two uplink ports that can use either Gigabit or 100Mbps fiber. nStor Licenses InoStor RAID
Poway-based InoStor announced that disk array maker nStor has licensed the company's RAIDn data protection technology for incorporation into nStor's NexStor 4700S series of storage systems. eHarmony, Friendster Launch Online Matching System
Pasadena-based eHarmony and social networking site Friendster announced this morning that the two companies have launched an online personals matching system for Friendster. The two companies are launching a co-branded matching service that uses eHarmony's computerized matching service with Friendster's social networking service.
