CallWave Targets Mobile Call Screening
Santa Barbara-based CallWave has extended its VoIP services to the cell phone market, introducing a new mobile call screening and mobile call transfer service today. SMC Ships Hotspot Gateway Kit
Irvine-based SMC Networks has shipped a new product geared at allowing companies to easily set up an Internet wireless hotspot. The company's new EliteConnect Hotspot Gateway Kit supports 2.4Ghz 802.11g, combining both a wireless access point with accounting and authentication services. RampRate Adds To Board
Santa Monica-based RampRate said that it has named Barry Patmore to its Board of Advisors. The firm negotiates IT outsourcing process for clients. Patmore previously served at Accenture, was a venture partner at Brentwood Venture Capital, and served as interim CIO at the Children's Hospital of Los Angeles. Memorex Taps M-Systems For Flash Drives
Cerritos-based media products company Memorex and M-Systems announced today that the two companies have partnered to provide USB flash drive storage systems to the consumer marketplace. Memorex will brand M-Systems flash USB flash drives as their own, adding to the company's line of storage products. Memorex markets a line of product ranging from CD-Rs to DVD recorders. Avery Dennison Unveils RFID Tag
Pasadena-based Avery Dennison is continuing its foray into the transportation and homeland security market with its announcement today of a tamper-evident Radio Frequency ID (RFID) tag. The company is tapping the technology of RF Code Inc. to demonstrate the product, which is expected to be available in early 2005. Alcatel Enhances Gigabit Switch Line
Calabasas-based Alcatel Network Division has debuted a new Gigabit switch family, The company's new OmniSwitch 6800 family of layer 3 switches are 1U-high, and support Gigabit Ethernet and 10 Gigabit Ethernet support. The company is targeting customers who are transitioning to Gigabit Ethernet at the desktop. San Diego Area Teen Scores Top Honors
A San Diego high school senior has won top honors and $100,000 in the Siemens Westinghouse Competition in Math, Science and Technology. Aaron Goldin invented a gyroscope that converts ocean wave energy into electricity, desinging the invention from an old tape recorder, answering machine, and household appliances.
