Citrix Launches Remote Access Down Under
Santa Barbara-based Citrix Online has launched its web-based collaboration and remote access tools in Australia and New Zealand this week, officially launching its suite of products through channel partners in the area. Citrix said that it will be targeting individual, SMBs, and large organizations through the ANZ region with its GoToAssist customer support solution, GoToMyPC remote desktop access service, and GoToMeeting collaboration tools.

Networks In Motion Appoints CEO
Irvine-based Networks In Motion announced that it has hired Doug Antone as President and CEO of the mobile workforce management and location-based services company. Antone joins from DispenseSource. Antone has previously served as an executive at Ingram Micro and Borland, and joins as the company recently announced a Series B funding from Redpoint Ventures and Mission Ventures. Previous CEO Stephen Petilli is now Chairman of the company.

QAD Opens R&D Center in China
Carpinteria-based QAD announced yesterday that it has opened a new R&D center in Shanghai to support development of its MFG/PRO software applications. The company said that Hong Yuan will lead the company's operations in China as an engineering manager, and will hire up to 50 software engineers at the new facility by the end of 2005. Helicomm Ships Zigbee Development Platform
Carlsbad-based Helicomm has released what it says is the broadest collection of development tools for the new ZigBee wireless standard. The company's new Zigbee-ready development tools support IEEE 802.15.4 IC and product design verification, an embedded networking development kit, and a 2.4Ghz embedded wireless module. HeyAnita Upgrades Messaging Service
Los Angeles-based HeyAnita said this week that it has upgraded its rapid messaging service which notifies users of messages via text messaging. Satellite Pirate Gets 7 Years
El Segundo-based DIRECTV announced yesterday that a satellite pirate has been sentenced in a case involving hacking of the DIRECTV satellite system. Martin C. Mullen (aka Martin P. Stewart) was sentenced to seven years in prison and ordered to pay DIRECTV $25M in restitution by a Florida judge. Mullen had distributed illegal smart cards for DIRECTV equipment through a network of 100 sub-dealers across Canada and the United States. Walt Disney Backs Blu-ray
Burbank-based Walt Disney Company has put its backing behind the emerging Blu-ray Disc format, saying that it will release content in Blue-ray format in North America and Japan. The move heats up the competition between rival format HD-DVD and Blu-ray, both of which are seeking to become the standard for next generation digital video. Sequoia Communicatons Raises $15M
San Diego-based Sequoia Communications announced that the company has raised $15M in a Series D funding. The funding was led by Gabriel Ventures, and included investments from previous investors Nokia Venture Partners, Tallwood Venture Capital, Cadence Design Systems, and Huntington Ventures. Sequoia is developing multi-mode RF semiconductor technology that allows multiple wireless standards to be combined on a single chip solution.
