Occam Appoints Cole To Board
Santa Barbara-based Occam Networks has appointed Kenneth R. Cole to its board of directors. The company is a developer of Ethernet and IP-based loop carrier equipment for telecommunications companies. Cole is currently vice chairman of VALOR Telecommunications, a rural telecommunications service provider.

Pharos Introduces GPS Navigation Unit
Torrance-based Pharos Science & Applications has launched a new pocket-sized GPS navigation unit targeted at the consumer market. The company's EZ-Road Pocket GPS Navigator provides voice prompts, digital street maps, and door-to-door instructions on navigating. The touch-screen device includes street maps of the entire US, including Alaska and Hawaii. The device also provides contacts, book, and calendar management and an MP3 player and has a suggested list price of $529.00.

Memec Ships Xilinx Development Kit
San Diego-based Memec announced that it has shipped a new development kit for the Xilinx Virtex-4 field programmable gate array (FPGA). Memec's Virtex-4 MB Development Kit provides a development kit for its customers to leverage the Xilinx Virtex-4 LX60 FPGA, used to provide high-performance and practical prototyping interfaces for electronic designers. The kit includes support for a 800 Mbps LVDS port, 32Mx16 DDR memory, 2Mx16 flash memory, 10/100 Ethernet more.

CMC Ships Wi-Fi Test System
Santa Barbara-based Communications Machinery Corporation (CMC) has released a new wireless test system targeted at Wi-Fi Protected Access (WPA) wireless network equipment. The company's new EE-WPA multi-station test system provides the ability to test capacity, scalability, and load on WPA-enabled enterprise wireless networks. Leap Adds Mobile Music Download
San Diego-based Leap Wireless said this morning that it has added music downloading to its suite of Qualcomm BREW-enabled mobile applications. Leap's new RealTone JukeBox application has been added to its Cricket Clicks suite of mobile applications, and allows subscribers to download their favorite music to their mobile phone. Acacia Acquires Patents, Expands Portfolio
Newport Beach-based Acacia Research announced today that it has signed an agreement to acquire the assets of Global Patent Holdings LLC, a patent holding company which owns 11 patent licensing companies. Acacia said that the acquisition would give it control of 27 patent portfolios, which includes 121 U.S. patents and foreign counterparts.
