MailersClub.com Appoints Execs
Los Angeles-based MailersClub.com announced this morning that it has appointed Peter Hirsch as VP of Sales & Marketing, and Tom Menik as COO. Hirsch most recently was at Superior Consultant Corporation and eLoyalty, as well as serving at ROLM, IBM and Siemens. Menik was most recently at Performance Products. MailersClub provides an online service which allows individuals, companies, and organizations to easily make mailings to mailing lists, including flyers, postcards, and more.

Broadcom Adds President, CEO
Irvine-based Broadcom said yesterday that it has added Scott A. McGregor as President, CEO, and member of its board of directors. McGregor was most recently President and CEO of the Philips Semiconductors divisio nof Royal Philips Electronics in the Netherlands. McGregor succeeds Alan E. "Lanny" Ross, a board member who took the President and CEO position in January of 2003. Ross will continue on the company's board of directors.

Akonix Inks Investment Customer
San Diego-based Akonix said this morning that it has signed Ardsley Advisory Partners, a Connecticut-based investment advisory firm, as a customer of its Akonix L7 instant messaging gateway. The investment firm will use Akonix hardware to provide control of instant messaging across the enterprise. The Akonix solution logs, monitors, and archives instant messaging and it being used to ensure SEC compliance Ardsley.

Air-Trak Gets Caterpillar Dealer Win
San Diego-based Air-Trak, a developer of GPS tracking and communication systems, announced that Michigan CAT, a Caterpillar dealer, has integrated its office systems with the Air-Trak GPS-based system. The equipment dealer is using the system to allow its mobile service technicians to fill out paperwork, and communicate with service vehicles. Air-Trak offers location-based GPS tracking and messaging through an XML interface, designed for integrating with custom applications and third-party softw (More info...)

Blog Readership Surges in 2004
The Pew Internet & American Life Project released a study this week that showed that blog readership in 2004 increased by 58%, with 6 million Americans getting news and information fed to them through RSS aggregators. The same study shows that there are over 8 million people creating web-based logs or diaries. However, the same study shows that 62% of online Americans do not know what a blog is.
