CryoCor Appoints COO
San Diego-based medical device company CryoCor announced that it has appointed Dr. Edward Brennan as Chief Operating Officer. Brennan will oversee research and development, manufacturing, quality, regulatory, and clinical affairs for the company. Brennan was most recently a Managing Director at Perennial Ventures.

StoneFly Adds Executives-
San Diego-based IP storage provider StoneFly Networks said this week that it has appointed William R. Atkinson as President and CEO. Atkinson joins from Astute Networks, where he was President and CEO of the firm, and has also served at Arroyo Optics. StoneFly also said that it has named Darrell Smith as VP of Engineering. Smith joins from AMCC and JNI, where he was director of software development.

Ixia Upgrades Layer 4-7 Testing
Calabasas-based Ixia said today that it has released a new update to its Layer 4-7 network testing suite. The company's new IxLoad software provides testing for content-aware devices such as load balancers, firewalls, proxy servers, email servers, and streaming media servers. The company said that the new software provides new support for email protocols (SMTP, POP3), streaming protocols (RTP, RTSP), and detailed real-time statistics.

Demarc Expands Security Lineup
Carpinteria-based Demarc Security this morning announced that it has expanded its security product lineup. Demarc has launched a new Workgroup edition of its Sentaurus product focused on small and medium-sized businesses. The new security software provides integrated threat management, intrusion prevention, vulnerability scanning, and other tools. The software centralizes and automates network security.

Accenture, National Water and Power In Outsourcing Deal
Irvine-based National Water and Power (NWP) Services announced this morning that it has signed a 10-year outsourcing contract with Accenture. Accenture will provide NWP with information technology, applications management and development services, including software development and maintenance of NWP's customer care and billing information functions. Accenture will also purchase the Open-cIS billing and customer care software system developed by NWP for customer care and billing of apartment res (More info...)

Virgin Buys Shift Music
Virgin Group announced today that it has acquired Los Angeles-based Shift Digital, a provider of digital music conversion, training, and consulting. Virgin Digital, the digital entertainment divison of Virgin Group Ltd. will fold Shift and its assets into the company to create a new offering to help consumers transition to digital media.
