Tachyon Names CEO
San Diego-based broadband satellite firm Tachyon Networks has named Peter A. Carides as President and CEO. Carides will also join the board. Carides was most recently a VP at Equant Inc. and has served as COO at Advanced Remote Communications Solutions. Tachyon provides high performance IP access via satellite to customers in North America, Europe, the Middle East, and Mexico.

Dorr Joins Nereus Pharmaceuticals
San Diego-based Nereus Pharmaceuticals has added F. Andrew Dorr to the company as Chief Medical Officer and SVP of Clinical Development and Regulatory Affairs. Dorr was most recently COO at Salmedix, and CMO and VP Drug Development at Isis Phramaceuticals. Nereus is a drug discovery an development company focusing on anticancer compounds and anti-infectives.

Bell Micro Adds SMC To Porfolio
Irvine-based network equipment maker SMC Networks said this week that Bell Microproducts, a leading distributor of storage components, has added SMC's networking solutions to its lineup. Bell will offer SMC's 300 networking products to its customers, and allows Bell's storage and server customers access to networking products.

USC Names Electronic Arts Founder To Faculty Chair
The University of Southern California has named Bing Gordon, Chief Creative Officer, Executive Vice President, and Founder of Electronic Arts to the Electronic Arts Endowed Faculty Chair at the USC School of Cinema-Television. The head of the videogame giant will be appointed chair for the rotating position, which is designated for an industry entertainment leader. Leap, V-Enable Ship Ringtone Application
San Diego-based Leap Wireless said this week that it is adding V-Enable's musicmatch voice-enabled ringtone application to its Cricket Clicks wireless services. V-Enable's voice-recognition technology allows Leap's wireless customers to verbally ask for ringtones from their favorite artists. The addition of the technology reduces the number of menus and steps that users need to wade through to download a ringtone. BakBone Delisted From OTCBB
San Diego-based data storage software firm BakBone Software said this morning that the NASD has denied the company's request to continue trading on the Over The Counter Bulleting Board (OTCBB), due to the company's failure to regularly report to the SEC. Effective Monday, February 14, the company will stop trading on the OTCBB.
