DefenseWeb Appoints CTO
San Diego-based DefenseWeb, a system integrator and software developer for the Department of Defense, has named Michael Oliphant as CTO. Oliphant joins from Vivendi Universal, and has also held positions at MP3.com. DefenseWeb is developing information portals and other systems for defense health care, quality of life, and family support organizations.

Iomega Appoints CFO
San Diego-based Iomega announced this morning that it has appointed Thomas Liguori as CFO. Liguori was most recently CFO of Channell Commercial Corporation. He also served at Dole Food Company as VP of Finance and CFO, and Deloitte & Touche. Iomega is a developer of storage solutions, including hard drives, CDRW and DVD drives, and more.

SMC Ships Stackable Switches
Irvine-based SMC has rolled out new stacking Gigabit Ethernet switches, expanding its line of Ethernet equipment. The company's new TigerStack 10/100/1000 48-Port Stackable Switches and 24-port Stackable Managed Switches are targeted at providing Gigabit Ethernet backbone capability for workgroup and enterprises. The switches both features 10G uplinks and management features such as RADIUS, TACACS+, traffic prioritization, and more.

Colorado Firm Buys San Diego IT Integrator
Boulder-based Incentra Solutions said this morning that it has acquired STAR Solutions, a San Diego-based systems integrator. The deal is worth approximately $7M in combination of cash, stock, and an unsecured promissory note. STAR provides IT consulting, system design, and storage and outsourcing to customers in the financial services, hospitality, retail, security and manufacturing verticals. The company reported revenues of $17M in 2004.

ReachLocal Reaches Out To Local Businesses
Encino-based ReachLocal announced this morning that it has rolled out an online service to help local businesses market online through search engines. The company said that it will help local businesses manage their online marketing through search engines such as Google, Overture, SuperPages.com, Yahoo, Advertising.com, and others. Companies Form Web Analytics Association
A group of web analytics companies have formed an association focused on educating and advocating for the web analytics industry. The new Web Analytics Association group (WAA) will focus on standards, privacy, and industry best practices. Companies involved include San Diego-based WebSideStory, WebTrends, CoreMetrics, Hewlett Packard, Omniture, and others. The web analytics industry provides services to online businesses to help them determine the effectiveness and design of their web sites.

ProfitLine Raises $5M
San Diego-based ProfitLine said this morning that it has raised an additional tranche in its Series A funding round from existing investor Menlo Ventures. The $5M funding brings its total Series A funding to $17M. The company said that it would use the funding to expand the company's sales and marketing of its Web-based application for telecom expense management, as well as for targeted acquisitions.
