iRise Lands European Consulting Firm
El Segundo-based iRise has scored a win with Watson Wyatt LLP, a European human capital and financial management firm. Sophos, Akonix Partner On Virus Protection
San Diego-based Akonix and Massachusetts-based Sophos have partnered to provide the Sophos virus protection engine bundled with the Akonix instant messaging gateway. Akonix said that it will use the Sophos anti-virus detection engine to black instant messaging worms, viruses, and other harmful software at the company's gateway. Business.com Gets $6.5M
Santa Monica-based Business.com has received $6.5M from Institutional Venture Partners, according to IVP. Business.com provides a search engine targeted at business customers, and recently received a round of funding from Benchmark. Steve Harrick of IVP will join the company's board. According to a report by VentureWire, IVP is buying out Pearson's stake in Business.com, as the publisher looks to get out of the VC investing business.

Solarflare Raises $48M
Irvine-based Solarflare said this morning that it has raised $48M in venture funding from Oak Investment Partners and previous investors Foundation Capital, Anthem Venture Partners, Intel Capital, and Miramar Ventures. Solarflare is developing high performance Gigabit Ethernet over Copper physical layer ICs, which are expected to allow for low cost gigabit-speed networking.
