Breach Names CEO
Carlsbad-based Breach Security said this morning that it has named Marc Shinbrood as CEO. Shinbrood was most recently president and CEO of Trasure Coast Software, and also served at AXENT Technologies (acquireds by Symantec). Former CEO John Payne remains as Chairman of the board. Breach is developing applicatoin security appliances based on adaptive, policy and signature-based application IDS/IPS technology. IOGEAR Adds MultiMedia Reader
Irvine-based IOGEAR has launched a new digital media reader targeted at the digital photo market. The company's new Pocket Card Reader works with mac and PCs and supports MultiMedia Card (MMC) and Secure Digital Card (SD) readers on USB 2.0. IOGEAR is targeting the device at digital camera users, but also for users of PDAs and voice recorders.

SMC Ships Workgroup Switch
Irvine-based SMC Networks has released the latest in its line of switches, this time with a new solution targeted at workgroups. The company's new TigerSwitch 10/100 Standalone 24-port 10/100 adds two Gigabit ports to a Fast Ethernet chassis, allowing companies to connect in Fast Ethernet workgroups with a high speed backbone. Bluebeam Launches Managed Server
Pasadena-based Bluebeam Software has launched a new central PDF conversion solution. The company's Bluebeam Conversion Server provides CAD-to-PDF conversation technology in an automated, centrally-managed server environment. Bluebeam's software converts CAD drawings to PDF and other formats, allowing companies to share and archive CAD and other design documents. Digital Orchid Rolls Out NASCAR With Verizon
San Diego-based Digital Orchid, a developer of branded real time wireless applications, said that it has inked a deal with Verizon Wireless to distribute NASCAR content on the Verizon wireless broadband multimedia service. Digital Orchid will distribute NASCAR video clips from the NASCAR.com TO GO service. The content includes racing videos and driver interviews. Digital Orchid is supported by Qualcomm.

Bush Presents Science and Technology Medals
Invoking the spirit of Lewis amd Clark in the East Room of the White House yesterday, President Bush handed out 14 National Medals of Science and Technology in a ceremony that also included greeting the 40 finalists of the 2005 Intel Science Talent Search. Award recipients included R. Duncan Luce of the University of California, Irvine, for his research on the mathematics of behavior, as well as Ethernet inventor Bob Metcalfe, and others in the fields of software engineering, chemistry, and more (More info...)
