Preventsys Names CTO
Carlsbad-based Preventsys yesterday named Brian Grayek as Chief Technology Officer. Grayek joins from Computer Associates, where he served in the office of the CTO, and has also served at the Apollo Group, AT&T, and Motorola. Preventsys is a provider of vulnerability management systems targeted at the enterprise market.

InoStor, TigerDirect In Marketing Agreement
Poway-based InoStor announced monday that it has signed an agreement with TigerDirect, a catalog and online marketer of computer hardware and components, to have TigerDirect market Tandberg Data's new 420LTO half-height LTO-2 tape drives and other components. InoStor, which is owned by Tandberg, said that TigerDirect will market the components to small business and enterprise customers through its web site, phone center, and mail order catalogs. Fulcrum Expands in Europe
Calabasas-based Fulcrum said Monday that it is now offering sales and design services in an expanded European sales channel. The company said that it now supports 13 northern and eastern European countries, and is providing design services that incorporate its PivotPoint clockless semiconductors in communications and storage systems designs. Xyleme Ships XML Search For TIBCO
San Diego-based Xyleme announced this week that it has partned with TIBCO to provide XML search tools for TIBCO's messaging and portal software. Xyleme's XML repository, Xyleme Server, will allow companies to archive and TIBCO's messaging server in real-time. Xyleme develops search tools that support structured query and full time search of XML formatted data.

Napster Raises Guidance, Reports 410,000 Subscribers
Los Angeles-based digital music download firm Napster reported this morning that it has 410,000 subscribers for its service, growing its subscriber base by 143,000 users in the fourth quarter. The company also raised its fourth quarter revenue estimates to between $16.5 and $17.5M on strength of its Napster To Go portable subscription service. ReachLocal Raises $7.75M
Encino-based ReachLocal, a local search marketing and advertising firm, said this morning that it has received $7.75M in a venture round led by VantagePoint Venture Partners. Podcasting Popularity Soars
A new study by the Pew Internet and American Life Project shows that over 29% of the 22 million American adults with iPods or MP3 players have downloaded "podcasts" from the Web. The study authors attributed the rising popularity of podcasting to the relative ease with which individual podcasters can create and distribute files.
